HiPCNA – PG: 3rd Int'l Workshop on High Performance Computing, Networking and Analytics for the Power Grid

Emilie Hogan, Mahantesh Halappanavar, and Zhenyu Huang (organizer) attended this workshop at Supercomputing on November 22, 2013. Emilie Hogan presented a paper on a comparison of two clustering techniques on power grid data. We used Fiedler vector partitioning on PMU data to cluster coherent generators. Eduardo Cotilla-Sanchez used Ybus data to get electrical distance, then used an evolutionary algorithm to cluster the same generators. We compared the clusters found by both algorithms. The paper was coauthored by Eduardo Cotilla-Sanchez (Oregon State), Mahantesh Halappanavar, Shaobu Wang (PNNL), Pat Mackey (PNNL), Paul Hines (University of Vermont), and Zhenyu Huang.
