Mihai Anitescu obtained his Ph.D. degree in applied mathematical and computational sciences from the University of Iowa in 1997. He has been a computational mathematician in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory since 2002 and a part-time professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Chicago since 2009. He is the author of more than 70 papers in scholarly journals and conference proceedings. He is a senior editor of Optimization Methods and Software and a member of the editorial boards of Mathematical Programming and SIAM Journal on Optimization. His scientific interests are in numerical optimization, uncertainty quantification, numerical analysis, and computational mathematics and their applications in nuclear engineering, electricity grid, chemical engineering, signal processing, materials science, biology, mechanical engineering, and robotics.
