Keahey delivers keynote address at international conference

Kate Keahey, a computational scientist in Argonne’s Mathematics and Computer Science Division, gave a keynote presentation at the 13th ACM SIGPLAN/SIGOPS International Conference on Virtual Execution Environments (VEE’17), held in China in April 2017.

VEE’17 brought together researchers and practitioners from different computer systems domains to interact and share ideas in order to advance the state of the art of virtualization, systems programming. and programming languages.

Keahey’s keynote address focused on the Chameleon project, which has deployed a reconfigurable testbed for computer science experimentation. She noted that reconfigurability is especially important in order to support repeatable and reproducible experiments in the computer science community.

Since its beginning in 2014, Chameleon has advanced to now include heterogeneous hardware such as InfiniBand networking, high-bandwidth I/O nodes, storage hierarchy nodes, and GPUs to support a broad diversity of research projects, said Keahey, who is science director architect of Chameleon. The project has over 185 users from more than 65 institutions involved in over 100 cloud research and education projects.
