"Segregation of Light and Heavy Particles by Turbulence"
DATE: July 25, 2007
TIME: 10:30 am
SPEAKER: Federico Toschi
LOCATION: Building 221 Conference Room A216, Argonne National Laboratory
HOST: Paul Fischer
Description:
Turbulent fluctuations exert a different role on small impurities, according to their density being higher or smaller with respect to the one of the advecting fluid. We present results from extensive state-of-the-art numerical simulations with particles characterized by different Stokes and density ratio. We present results on the statistical properties of particles and explore different tools to characterize their clustering and segregation properties.
