Prasanna Balaprakash is developing derivative free optimization algorithms for automatic tuning of high performance computing codes on future extreme scale architectures.
His doctoral research activities have focused on two areas. The first is the design, development, and analysis of heuristic algorithms for large-scale stochastic combinatorial optimization problems. The second is the design and development of effective tools for automated algorithm tuning and their exploitation in computer-aided design of high performing algorithms.
Balaprakash received his Bachelor's degree in computer science engineering from Periyar University, Salem, India; his Master's degree in computer science from the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Magdeburg, Germany; and his Ph.D. from the Institut de Recherches Interdisciplinaires et de Developpements en Intelligence Artificielle (IRIDIA), Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium.
