Community Project for Accelerator Science and Simulation 4

As the scientific community moves to explore the intensity and energy frontiers of particle physics, high-energy physics (HEP is becomining increasingly importnat. The objective of the ComPASS-4 project is to both enable the use of and to use high-performance computing to advance accelerator science and technology in support of the U.S. HEP program.

 Specifically, we will provide software development and simulation support for the Proton Improvement Plan-II (PIP-II) project, for the Facility for Advanced Accelerator Experimental Tests (FACET-II), and for conventional accelerator research at Integravle Optics Test Accelerator (IOTA).

To meet the demands of these software development and use efforts, we will develop advanced particle-in-cell techniques to take advantage of emerging computer architectures, including GPUs and Intel Phi, and integrate these techniques into the beam dynamics framework Synergia and plasma acceleration codes. We will also develop a suite of Advanced Solvers for Accelerator Physics (ASAP) to improve fidelity and efficiency of the Poisson solvers integrated with these codes. Furthermore, we will develop the Platform for Optimization of Particle Accelerators at Scale (POPAS), which will provide an API to enable parameter optimization using all our accelerator codes in addition to codes from outside the project.
