Simulation on Intrepid of Katrina-like hurricanes

The Climate Science for a Sustainable Energy Future (CSSEF) project objectives are to:

  • Accelerate incorporation of new knowledge, including process data and observations, into climate models;
  • Develop new methods for rapid evaluation of improved models; and
  • Develop novel approaches to exploit computing at the level of tens of petaflops in climate models.

Success in this project will enable scientists to answer questions posed in the period after the publication of the IPCC 5th Assessment Report. The project comprises three components: data and testbeds, numerical methods and computational science, and uncertainty quantification. There are activities in each area that are focused on the atmosphere, land, and ocean/sea-ice components of a climate model as well as stand-alone activities that benefit all components.
