AbstractHere we report on a protocol for the improvement of initial automated annotations for sets of closely-related genomes across a genus. This is an enabling step for the future creation of accurate, predictive models that will support reasoning about differences in phenotype, media requirements etc. This protocol includes the generation of protein families for fifteen publicly available genomes from the genus Brucella, their manual curation and metrics to evaluate the improvements.
