Abstract:
The Open Science Grid is a collaboration of science researchers, software developers and computing, storage and network providers. OSG members come from universities, national laboratories and computing centers across the United States.

The OSG Consortium builds and operates the OSG. The Consortium was formed in 2004 to bring resources and researchers from universities and national laboratories together to give scientists from many fields access to shared resources worldwide. Members of the Consortium – including groups from universities, laboratories, and computing centers, and scientific and software collaborations - contribute effort and resources to a common infrastructure.

The OSG works actively with many partners , including grid and network organizations and international, national, regional and campus grids, to create a grid infrastructure that spans the globe.

The management of the OSG is led by the Executive Director and Executive Board, and the OSG is governed by the Council, which includes a representative from each Consortium member.

The OSG is a continuation of Grid3, a community grid built in 2003 through a joint project of the U.S. LHC software and computing programs, the National Science Foundations’ GriPhyN and iVDGL projects, and the Department of Energy’s PPDG project.
