I am a staff scientist jointly with the Decision and Information Sciences Division and Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory. My research is on numerical methods for electrical power system analysis, specifically in the areas of High Performance Computing and Dynamic Analysis, in the Center for Energy, Environmental, and Economic System Analysis..
I received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Mumbai and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). In September 2009, I joined Argonne’s Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) Division as a part-time co-op student and worked on the development of PETSc, a high-performance numerical library and one of the flagship software tools of MCS. Over the next two years, I learned various aspects of high performance computing along with the details of developing and maintaining a large-scale scientific software.
In September 2011, I started my Postdoc with MCS. Here, I initially worked on adding multithreading support in PETSc for the impending multicore and many-core architectures and I am currently involved in two projects on power grid simulation. The first one is on ‘Faster-than-real-time dynamics simulation’, led by IIT and funded by DOE’s Office of Electricity. Here, I am primarily developing and implementing variable time-stepping algorithms to achieve faster than real-time power grid dynamics simulation. The second project is part of MCS’ new Center for “Multifaceted Mathematics for Complex Energy Systems” funded by DOE’s Office of Science Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) program. Here, my focus is on dynamics-constrained optimization, stochastic dynamics, and scalable linear solvers for large-scale power grid dynamics analysis.
Besides work, I am an avid pool player and like to play pool whenever I get a chance. I've played in the APA league before and now play in the Argonne Pool League. The above picture is from the APA national championship at Las Vegas in 2009.
