We've known about this course for a long time, but whenever we head south to
the Joliet area, we've always gone to West Park. It's a fairly substantial
drive down there, and we really like that course.
But finally, Brian and I decided to scope out the New Lenox course and
see if it was also worth heading to.
Our final opinion - nah. If you leave near there, it's good, but from
where we are, we'd rather head to West Park, or go north to Lombard.
These pics are mostly up to show the rest of the gang what the park is
like.

The park is a fairly open park, as shown here in this picture, which
is the view from the parking lot. It turns out that it's better than
one would guess from this picture, as the course gets close to the
river (off the back of the picture) and into the woods (off the right). |

Here is the tee-off for #1. Only not quite. But more park. |

Teeing off on number 1. A basic straight shot, with the hazard of
landing in someone's back yard on the left. |

Hole 2. Turning right 90 degrees, along a tight tree line. |

Hole 3. The basket is behind the tree in the middle, but the hole
is basically wide open. Somewhere in here, the signs and the
actual numbers get out of sync. The sign says "4", but there is
no possible other hole 3. Looking closer, we see that the signs
have been sort of renumbered. Sort of. |

Hole 4. Wide open, but you can screw up and get on the wrong side
of a row of trees. |

Hole 5. Down the border of the park. A straight shot, but... |

... if you overshoot, you go into the river. A nice touch.
Note that the river smells vaguely sewagey. |

Hole 6. A cool hole. Fairly short, but goes under a canopy of
trees and had a very strong cut to the left, with the basket
right by the river. |

Hole 7. Another cool hole, where you have to keep below the
trees, cross a wide open area, and then penetrate a fairly
dense woods on the other side to get to the basket. Probably
the coolest hole on the course. |

Here the signs start to lose. The sign is still off by one, but
no longer has the "actual" number on it. It's worth noting that
someone clearly worked hard on this course once. The signs are
all hand-carved, with careful notes about open spaces and tree
spaces. |

Hole 8. Into the woods now, you can see how dense the trees are. |

Hole 10 goes back across the park. A longer hole, but not really
that long, and quite wide open. |

Hole 11 comes back towards the woods, but is still essentially open. |

After searching for a bit, we find hole 12 (nee 13) back in the
woods. |

Hole 14. These all follow narrow tracks through the woods. Doing
well is part skill, part luck. |

Hole 15. Markers in the soil, but no sign. It goes out of the woods
and into the open park again. Brian's showing where we found the tee
markers. |

Here's a view of the park from the parking lot, where you can see the
woods on the right and the open park on the left. |
|
|
So, all in all, a fun outing, but probably not worth driving down
for again.
