Randy Hudson's Home Page

I am a senior scientific programmer at the ASC/Alliances Center for Astrophysical Thermonuclear Flashes at the University of Chicago , and a visiting scientist in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division of Argonne National Laboratory .

At Argonne, I have done research in hardware- and software-based volume rendering (both parallel and serial), scientific and medical visualization, 2d and 3d line integral convolution (LIC), CAVETM -ish virtual reality, high-resolution tiled displays and parallel computing. At the Flash Center, I write high-end, parallel, distributed scientific-visualization software using the TeraGrid.

I got my Masters' degree in Computer Science at the Electronic Visualizaton Laboratory (EVL) at the University of Illinois at Chicago . My research interests include visual and experimental mathematics , scientific visualization, volume visualization , virtual reality, and parallel computing.

Volume-rendered time series of evolution of supersonic fluid jet.

G7 - Global Interoperability for Broadband Networks

.
The G7 project was a distributed collaboration in astrophysical simulation between scientists in Illinois and Italy. This was accomplished by combining a high-speed ATM network; a distributed-virtual-reality tool ( ManyWorlds ); a real-time, virtual-space volume renderer ( VRen ) and a virtual audio-video-streaming tool ( CAVEav). This image (click on it for a larger copy) shows a scene from the ImmersaDesk(TM) (large window), along with the vic session (smaller window) to which the IDesk user's virtual view (smallest window) is being multicast.
