The New York Philharmonic plays on Wednesday (July 21) at 8 pm at
Ravinia:
David Robertson, conductor
Leonidas Kavakos, violin
Mendelssohn: The Hebrides ("Fingal's Cave"), Op. 26
Debussy: "Nuages" and "Fetes" from
Nocturnes
Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64
Strauss: Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30
This is an outdoor concert with pavilion and lawn tickets. You can
find all information at
www.ravinia.org
From past experiences at Ravinia I can highly recommend it. Here are
some facts:
- For the classical concerts lawn tickets ($10) are usually not
sold out and available at the box office at the evening of the
performance.
- There is a lawn chair/table rental on site.
- Pavilion tickets ($ 20/30/40) should be ordered
individually through the
Ravinia web-site (see the "Reserved Seats" button). These
tickets do sell out and therefore should be ordered asap. The pavilion
is open on both sides and the back but
has a roof which can be a significant advantage in case of bad weather.
- Perordered tickets can be picked up at the box office.
- There is a nice speaker system broadcasting the music to the
listeners on the lawn.
- Pavilion ticket holders have of course access to the lawn but
not vice versa. Lawn ticket holders can still walk up to pavilion and
listen and see the performance without the speaker system's help.
- There are trains going from the city directly to the concert site
and back see
here.
People usually arrive early (the park opens at 5 pm), bring their own
picnic and eat before the concert. If you are interested please
contact
me and I can get some
bottles of wine
and some bread and cheese. I
will be there early and stake claim to a nice piece of the lawn. This
page will be updated with some more details when we come closer to the
concert.
