Places to Contribute to Access Grid Development

Getting involved in some aspect of Access Grid Development is easy! There are currently a four places to plug in and start contributing work towards the Access Grid. They are:

Core Toolkit
Most of the core toolkit work is happening at Argonne National Laboratory; the Futures Laboratory is very interested in collaborating with others in the development of this toolkit. For more information contact the Futures Lab AG Developers at mailto:[email protected].
Basic and/or Extended Services
Basic and/or Extended Services are the core set of services that Access Grid users should have at their disposal to gain at least minimal use of the Access Grid. We consider basic services to include:
    1. Text - This provides basic communication and awareness functionality.
    2. Audio - Full Duplex, Echo Free audio are a must for real collaboration.
    3. Video - H.261 is a minimum requirement for getting a sense of others.
    4. Monitoring - Actively monitoring the network to keep the user aware of any problems.
    5. Network Management - Integrated support for bridging allows future development of dynamic fault-tolerance so that collaborations are less affected by network performance.
Application Services
Application Services are an exciting area where developers can try out new collaborative application design. The Access Grid provides much of the meta-information about users, security, authorization, and data persistence - now application developers can leverage that infrastructure to design next generation applications.
Network Services
Network Services are another exciting place for development, Network Services expose rich functionality below the user level, in the middleware of the Access Grid. There are many opportunities to enable more interoperability, support multi-modality and cross-modality interactions, and many others.
