This set of commands and their arguments will be reviewed for conformance with POSIX specifications. (IEEE Std 1003.2-1992, Portable Operating System Interface [POSIX] Part 2: Shell and Utilities)
The initial public domain implementation will use shell scripts. Vendors may choose to implement via their individual message-passing systems. In that case, we intend to suggest the use of MPI to provide a portable implementation.
